Project TRACKS, Radiofrequency transmitters for particle accelerators
TRACKS, Radiofrequency Transmitters for Particle Accelerators based on Klystrons and Solid State that contribute to the technological development of society, is an operation of ESS Bilbao co-financed by European Regional Development Funds (FEDER) that is part of the Programa Operativo Plurirregional de España 2014-2020 within the framework of the investment objective in growth and employment to promote research, technological development and innovation. The TRACKS project will improve the infrastructure that ESS Bilbao has in the Basque Country and reinforce the human resources dedicated to R+D+i.
TRACKS consist of designing, developing and manufacturing 6 pulsed radiofrequency transmitting chains of 3MW peak power based on klystron; 3 transmitting chains of 30kW of peak power based on solid state amplifiers; and a RF conditioning test stand in low and high power for all components.
The project is included within the specific objective of strengthening R&D institutions for the consolidation and improvement of scientific and technological infrastructures, particularly in the line of action of Spanish participation in major international scientific and technological infrastructures. It will also serve to improve the R & D centers of the Basque Country such as the RF test stand or the RF measurements laboratory that ESS Bilbao has at its Zamudio facilities, which supports the Spanish participation in the ESS European project
